AI or Real Quiz: One Image, Two Answers, Instant Feedback

The AI or real quiz shows you one image at a time and offers exactly two answers: a photograph taken with a camera, or a picture produced by a generative model. You click, the label resolves immediately and the next image follows. A game is ten images long, points depend on speed and accuracy, and nothing has to be installed or registered. Three practice images are below, further down this page.

How a single round works

Every round follows the same three steps. The image appears at full width. You choose between real and AI. The game reveals the correct label, then moves on to the next picture. There is no timer and no penalty for taking a second look, but the points that a correct answer earns shrink as the seconds pass.

A full game draws ten images from a mixed pool: documentary-style photographs on one side, generated pictures across several difficulty levels on the other. That mix matters more than it sounds. If a quiz only shows fantasy castles, spotting the AI is a trick question; if it only shows studio portraits, the real photos look fake to everyone.

Why two answers work better than five

Most detection advice fails in practice because it hands you a dozen categories to juggle. The quiz forces a binary decision, which is exactly the decision you face in a feed: forward it or not, believe it or not, use it or not.

A binary choice also makes your own bias visible. If you keep marking real photographs as AI-generated, you lean sceptical. If you keep missing generated images, you lean credulous. Ten rounds tell you which of the two you are, and that is more useful than any single verdict on a single picture.

What the image pool can and cannot teach you

The generated images come from current models and cover scenes people actually photograph: cafés, living rooms, streets at night, dogs, plates of food. The real photographs were picked for their ordinary look, with mixed light, motion blur, awkward framing and noise in the shadows. Neither side is a trick collection, which is why the result says something about your eye.

What the pool cannot teach you is certainty. Every generator release removes the mistakes of the previous one, and heavy compression destroys the fine detail that clues usually live in. A round measures how you read the images in front of you, not whether you have a permanent ability to detect synthetic media.

Four checks that settle most images

Run these in order, and stop as soon as two of them agree:

  • Source first: who published the image, and is there an original beyond the repost?
  • Text in the picture: do signs, labels and screens carry words that actually mean something?
  • Hands and contact points: where fingers hold an object, generators tend to blur or merge.
  • Light and repetition: one plausible light direction, and no identical windows, faces or railings in the background.

No single clue proves anything. Two independent observations that point the same way are what makes an assessment worth stating out loud.

Playing without an account

The quiz runs in the browser on a phone, a tablet or a laptop. There is no login, no download and no payment, and the interface follows the language you selected. After a round you can save the result, share it as a link, or start the next game.

Frequently asked questions

Is the AI or real quiz free?

Yes. The guessing part of the game is free, with no account and no paid tier behind it.

How many images are in one game?

Ten. Three of them you can try on this page, directly in the browser and without registering.

Can I play on my phone?

Yes. The layout is built for touch first: the image fills the width and the two answer buttons sit within reach of your thumb.

Does a good score prove I can spot AI images?

No. It shows how you did on that particular mix of images. A different pool, a newer model or heavy recompression can move your score in either direction.
